HEARTLAND TRADITIONS TOUR
Join us for an excursion through the agricultural heartland of Banderas Bay, where you will meet and engage with two families of local entrepreneurs. You might visit with a potter in his home workshop, where you’ll learn about the pottery process from start to finish. Other possible visits include a beekeeper’s honey making workshop, or visiting a florist’s tropical orchard filled with exotic fruits and flowers. Every trip ends with a delicious farm-to-table feast at a family-owned ranch, where you’ll learn how to make your own queso fresco (fresh cheese) and tortillas!

Frequently Asked Questions
Who will I meet on the tour?
We collaborate with a small group of artisans and small business owners in the Banderas Bay area. Check out the Our Partners page to learn more about who you might meet!
I’ve already been on a tour. How can I make sure to see different families this time?
When making your reservation online you will have the opportunity to specify if you have already attended a tour before and provide more details about your preferences so that, based on the availability of our partners, we can design the perfect experience for you. You can also check out the Bucerías Cultural Tour for a different tour experience!
How many other travelers will be on my tour?
Our tour sizes vary each week. The minimum for a tour is 6 people and groups can be as large as 13. However, feel free to contact us if you have a larger group size.
How much walking does the tour entail?
An air-conditioned van is provided as transportation for the group during our tours so there is minimal walking. Our tours are fit for people of all ages and activity levels, and can be customized to meet most physical restrictions. Should you require special assistance, please contact us.
Can you pick me up from my hotel?
The transportation during our tours is only to and from our office in Bucerías. We are currently unable to do pick-ups and drop-offs at hotels or other accomodations.
Can I pay in cash?
Yes you can! We ask that you please notify our tour director, Maya (email@example.com), if you’d like to pay in cash. Cash payments should be paid at our office up to 48 hours before the tour date. We accept US dollars or pesos considering the exchange rate of the day of payment.
Is this tour a good fit for families?
Absolutely! Since we visit families, it’s a perfect experience for families of travelers, as shared values and experiences are often discussed. Also, this activity is wonderful for young kids, who get to see a more intimate side of Mexico and apply their creativity. When booking your tour, please indicate the ages of your children so that we can specialize the tour for them! If you do, we make sure to visit partners who have interactive trades so that your kids can get involved. See our TripAdvisor page for feedback from families.
I have a dietary restriction, can I still eat on the tour?
Yes, just make sure to let us know in your reservation your dietary needs or restrictions, and we will notify our partners beforehand to make sure you still get to enjoy a delicious meal.
Can I bring donations?
Human Connections does not accept in-kind donations for the families we visit during Cultural Day Tours. Our tours are meant to be educational, create conversation, and financially and emotionally empower the families with whom we work. We hope you will leave with new ideas about charity, need, and responsible travel.
That said, we collaborate with some incredible local organizations that, among other things, ethically channel in-kind donations to local people. Human Connections is more than happy to accept your in-kind donations in our Bucerías office and bring them to these partners, which include Entreamigos and Ahora es Tiempo de Dar. We also encourage you to visit these organizations directly.
