Volunteer with Human Connections
Connect with the community and contribute towards sustainable development by volunteering with Human Connections. We are currently seeking volunteers who are able to support in the following two areas:
Marketing
Human Connections has stands at local markets to spread the word about our Cultural Day Tours. We rely on volunteers to run these stands and share with market-goers their insights about the tour experience. This personal approach to promoting our tours has a tremendous impact on the volume on tours booked, which in turn directly and very significantly impacts our partners. The marketing positions currently available are:
Market Coordinator
Our Market Coordinators set up and oversee our stands at local markets. They coordinate HC Ambassadors to ensure each stand is properly staffed and has all needed materials and support. Our Market Coordinators are the liaisons between HC staff, the market organizers, and the HC Ambassadors.
A Strong Candidate will:
- Have experience with Human Connections and/or volunteering before
- Be able to either set up or close the booth on market days
- Have interest in international development and/or community building
- Be able to commit to a minimum of 3 months of volunteering
- Be enthusiastic and passionate about our mission and eager to support it.
We’d be really excited to have someone who:
- Has experience living in, or around, Bucerías
- Knows how to operate a smartphone
- Has access to their own form of transportation
- Has experience in public relations, human resources or communications
- Is flexible with scheduling shifts and taking on multiple projects/assignments
- Can volunteer in the market the whole season
HC Ambassador
HC Ambassadors are our official spokespeople. They engage with visitors to explain Human Connections’ mission and promote our tours in local markets. While they are not in charge of setting up the booths, they do handle reservations.
A Strong Candidate Will:
- Have an interest in learning about culture and community involvement
- Speak English
- Be at least 16 years old
- Be an enthusiastic individual who is a passionate speaker and eager to share Human Connections’ mission with potential tour guests in market spaces
- Be able to commit to a minimum of 3 months of volunteering
We’d be really excited to have someone who:
- Speaks Spanish
- Is available to consistently work at least one shift during the whole high season (November- April)
- Has access to their own form of transportation
Metrics
As a social enterprise, Human Connections strives to measure its impact as accurately as possible. We rely on volunteers to support with data collection and reporting so that we can learn from our data and continually strengthen our operations.
HC Administrative Assistant
Our HC Administrative assistants take on the role of assisting our HC staff team in the office with administrative tasks, such as processing data from tours. They gain valuable experience in monitoring and evaluation, and working with a small dynamic team.
A Strong Candidate will:
- Possess excellent organizational skills
- Be interested in working in a multicultural environment
- Be enthusiastic and passionate about our mission and eager to learn/help.
- Have an interest in international development and/or community building

Working at Human Connections has been a life-changing experience. Having the chance to be a small part of this amazing team throughout these few years has given me the opportunity to work with a team of truly inspiring professionals. Working here has also made me much more perceptive to the necessities of my own community and better prepared to strategize actions that aim to benefit everyone involved in a project. The Human Connections community, which includes staff and local partners, is committed to a sustainable model of tourism which values, I believe, are essential for promoting positive and responsible economic and social progress. I feel extremely lucky to continue to be in touch with the team of Human Connections, and forever grateful for the many lessons, professional and personal, that I learn as I continue to be inspired by their work.

“Volunteering with Human Connections has had such a profound influence on my life. It has given me the opportunity to witness the positive effects they are having on the lives of so many in the local community as well as to see the new insight gained by visitors who participate in the cultural day tour. Go beyond being just another tourist to this beautiful corner of the world. Volunteer with Human Connections and connect to both the local community and to other like-minded ex-pats. You will truly make a difference while having fun! ”
